Canon is a Japanese multinational company renowned for its high profile in the consumer market for cameras and computer printers. Canon specializes in visual imaging and optical products, including cameras, photocopiers and computer printers. The company asserts a significant share of credit for the growth of the modern inkjet cartridges.
The Canon printer cartridges make use of an ink known as the aqueous or water based inks which primarily uses pigments or dyes and is said to be inexpensive to manufacture than other inkjet technologies in the market. It is however, complicated to manage on the surface of media, frequently requiring specifically coated media.
The Aqueous inks are generally used in printers with disposable or what they call thermal inkjet heads. Water is necessary in using and performing the Thermal inkjet. This principle was with the ingenuity of Canon engineer Ichiro Endo in August 1977. Today, some models of Canon uses consumable print heads designed to last the life of the printer. It can also be replaced if it becomes clogged in the process. For models with “Think Tank” equipment, the ink tanks are separated for each ink color. While, the disposable ink head primarily uses a print head contributing as a part of a consumable inkjet cartridge. Therefore, whenever a cartridge is worn out, it is a clear indication that the entire cartridge and print head must be interchanged with a new one.
